Guided Tours

Due to Covid-19 restrictions are not offering in-person tours at this time.

Tour Requests:

Requests for a guided tour of the Duderstadt Center can be made by completing a tour request form on our website. Our tours may include visits to the Groundworks Media Lab, Design Studio, Audio Studios, Video Studio, Personal Studio, Fabrication Studio, Multimedia Rooms, Visualization Studio and Gallery.

Tour Guidelines:

  • Offered M-F, 10 AM - 4 PM
  • Restricted to groups of 20 or less, and to students/visitors no younger than 16
  • 14 days’ advance notice
  • Any exceptions to our normal procedures require additional conversations

Guided Tour Options:

Standard “Overview” Tour - this tour includes a brief overview and visit to our various studios and creative spaces. It does not include demonstrations, and access may be limited to a given resource if it’s in use.  This is our most popular and satisfying tour for those interested in learning about all of our resources. (30-60 min)

Tour Plus – an enhanced tour with additional demonstrations in one or more of our resource areas.

Orientation – training in a specific resource area, usually driven by a class assignment or other academic need. We offer daily orientations in many of our spaces which may suit your needs (see below).

Orientations

Due to Covid-19 restrictions we are not offering in-person orientations at this time. Look for an online version of the Groundworks orientation coming soon.

Orientations:

Groundworks Orientations are held daily, Monday - Friday at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. No appointment necessary. Just check-in at the Consultant Desk in the Groundworks Media Lab, Room 1315 in the Duderstadt Center (approx. 30 min)

This orientation will introduce you to the tools available in the Groundworks Media Lab and provide basic training for the Recording Booth and Multimedia Rooms. During the orientation, you will have the opportunity to create a user account in order to reserve and use these spaces going forward.

We encourage your group of 8 or more to notify us in advance at [email protected] so we can better accommodate your specific needs.

Personal Studio Orientations are offered Mondays and Tuesdays at 2:30 pm, and Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 am. Again, just stop by the Groundworks Media Lab at the designated time to get started. For more information please visit https://www.dc.umich.edu/spaces/groundworks

Visualization Studio Orientations are offered daily, Monday - Friday at 11:00 AM. Small groups are introduced to the Oculus Rift and Vive head-mounted displays, and photogrammetry set-up. Students who receive an orientation can be registered to have 24/7 M-Card access to the studio once the orientation is completed.

For a tour of the Arts, Architecture and Engineering Library and/or the Computer & Video Game Archive in the Duderstadt Center, please contact Val Waldron.
